Marph goes to Thailand

After a full year, it was time for an end of year break. So many choices! Thailand has been near the top of the Asia-must-see list for a while and December is the best time of year to visit so off we set!

Exploring started in Phuket with our acommodation in Patong Beach.

We enjoyed a day trip to Phang Nga Bay,

with kayaking through low caves,

and around the limestone outcrops,

a stop at James Bond Island,

and chilled beach time.

A cold one and an hour foot rub was in order at the end of a full day!

Christmas was spent snorkelling on Phi Phi Island.

Phad Thai lunch with a view.

Our lunchtime companion =)
Many stray cats roam freely on Phi Phi and many parts of Thailand. One was aiming for a spot in our room overnight in Phi Phi!

Moo Dee Bay was our fave snorkel spot on Phi Phi followed by Long Beach.

Christmas Day sunset on Phi Phi.

Our friendly long tail boat driver who took us around Phi Phi Ley.
This photo was our reservation with him for the next day!

Pileh Lagoon

Swimming at Pileh Lagoon

Walking in Leo's footsteps on the beach where the movie The Beach was filmed.

From Phi Phi we caught the ferry to Krabi.
Our room mate for 3 days at Ao Nang Beach!

Favourite beaches in Krabi were Hong Island, Railay and Ao Phra Nang Beach.

From Krabi we headed North to Chaing Mai.

Old city wall and moat surrounding Chaing Mai.

Rest break stop at a waterfall in Doi Suthep National Park at the start of a 2 day hiking trip.

Hiking with the wonderful Krista and Bryan!
We stayed overnight on New Year's Eve in a similar house in a remote village in the mountains.

Our cheerful guide Wan

Meeting these beautiful and graceful gentle giants in a nearby village the morning after our home stay.

We fed the Ellies bananas and sugar cane and had the opportunity to wash them in the river.
Was a very special time!

Temple hopping in Chiang Mai!

With a Starbucks break inbetween!

From Chaing Mai we took the overnight train to Bangkok. An interesting experience!

Visiting the Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha at Wat Phra Kaew.

The Reclining Buddha.

Photo bomber!

Part of Wat Arun or the Temple of Dawn.

Ice cream break!

We should have known!

A more preferable snack ;)

We braved a tuk tuk ride!

The last day in Bangkok arrived all too soon =(
We visited Jim Thompson's House, visited a mall (it's a Bangkok thing apparently), Lumphini Park, China Town, a few more temples and squeezed in one last massage!

Beautiful orchids at Jim Thompson House.

And just enough time to post postcards!

Thanks for a great holiday Thailand!!
See you again soon.

Wishing all our friends and family a Happy New Year!
May 2018 be your year
